Healthcare Management Degree Programs at Dallas Baptist University

Located in one of the largest cities in Texas, Dallas Baptist University understands the need that local hospitals and other facilities have for workers with good management and leadership skills. That is why the university now offers three degree programs for those future leaders. One of these programs awards students a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Health Care Management. In addition to general education courses, this program requires that students take one kinesiology course and that they take some physical science classes too. It also includes 10 required courses such as Legal Issues in Health Care Management, Management Communication, Finance for Health Care Managers and Advanced Management Seminar in Health Care Management.
A dual degree program is available that allows students to earn a Master of Arts in Management and a Master of Education in Kinesiology. Students will take 24 credits of management courses, 18 credits of kinesiology classes and 12 credits of concentration courses. Their concentration courses include Managed Health Care and Long-Term Care Administration and teach them more about managing healthcare organizations. Other classes in the dual program include Sport Nutrition, Fitness Management, Human Resource Strategy and Communications and Business Behavior.
Dallas Baptist University also offers a Master of Science in Management with a Health Care Management concentration. Though students can choose from other concentrations, this is the only one focused on the health care field. All management majors will take the same 24 credits of core classes, including Business Ethics, Operational Finance, Leadership in Management and Advanced Marketing Strategies. The four health care management classes they take include Managed Health Care and Health Services Management Capstone Initiative. Dallas Baptist University offers this as an online program that allows students to take one class up to a full course load each semester.
About Dallas Baptist University
Dallas Baptist University is a private university in Dallas, Texas. Established in 1898 as a junior college, many of its early students completed vocational training programs or earned two-year degrees that helped them transfer to another school. This small school operated out of Decatur before moving to Dallas in later years. That move gave the college more room to expand, which it needed to do as its enrollment grew. Though it used the name Dallas Baptist College for several decades, it is now a full university that often uses the abbreviation DBU. DBU added four-year programs to its curriculum in the late 1960s and added its first graduate programs in later years.
DBU is a Christian university that has an affiliation with the Southern Baptist Church. Though most of its students are Baptists, it accepts those from other Christian backgrounds. The university puts on a variety of special events each year that welcome alumni back to the campus and other events for current students and their families. More than 5,100 students now enroll or return to DBU for classes every year.
Dallas Baptist University Accreditation Details
DBU has the regional accreditation that allows it to both offer full degree programs and financial aid packages for incoming students and those who continue their studies through the university. That accreditation comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and lets DBU accept credits that students earned from another school that has regional accreditation. Its management programs have the same accreditation that its business programs do, which comes from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
Dallas Baptist University Application Requirements
DBU outlines every step in its application process online, which makes it easy for students to see how they can apply and what they still need to do. Undergrads can use a paper application or the online application, though those who use the online system typically receive their letters from the university faster. Students can use either the DBU application or go through the ApplyTexas website. The university expects students to provide their test scores and transcripts too. They can apply for financial aid before receiving a decision letter from DBU.
The Graduate School of Business at Dallas Baptist University created a series of application requirements that it now uses to weed through the applications that it receives. It will only consider those who have a cumulative college grade point average of 3.0 or higher or those who maintained that GPA over the last two years or 60 credits of classes taken/attempted. Graduate students must take either the MAT or the GRE and submit their scores. DBU recommends that students have up to five years of management experience and/or take at least 12 credits of graduate level classes. Prospective graduate students will submit the application and provide their transcripts and test scores. Students who only meet some requirements may receive provisional or conditional acceptance.
Tuition and Financial Aid
DBU charges the same rate for all undergrads and does not charge more for nonresidents. Undergrads pay $929 per credit hour for any classes taken in the fall or the spring semester. Those taking summer courses will pay $979 per credit hour. The rate for DBU graduate students is $989 per credit hour for the fall and spring semesters and $1,004 per credit hour in the summer sessions. Room and board will add at least $3,400 to a student’s costs each semester. DBU offers health insurance plans for as little as $589 per semester too.
Any undergrad who needs financial aid should both submit the FAFSA and look at the scholarships offered by DBU. Its Patriot Award provides students with $4,000 a year and goes to those that the university thinks will best fit its mission. Students who graduate within the top 10% of their classes and have a score of 28 or 1310 on the ACT or SAT and have a grade point average of 3.95 or higher qualify for its largest scholarship, which gives students $12,000 a year. Students with strong leadership skills who worked for their churches in leadership positions may qualify for more than $4,000 in other types of aid. The information that students share on the FAFSA will help the university determine what other aid they qualify for from the government, including loans and select grants. Dallas Baptist University majoring in its undergrad health care management program and similar programs at the graduate level may qualify for financial aid.
